Different Types of Samples in Garments Industry

Sampling is a crucial step for developing the garment products through some tests starting before bulk production. Garment sampling is not different from other samplings. To pass an order confirmation, an ideal buying house should follow different types of samples in fashion merchandising. In the sampling department, designers create samples based on the buyers’ requirements. Sampling in apparel merchandising mainly indicates product choosing, adjusting, and testing.

Although sampling is a challenging process, it helps to get orders from buyers. Even it implies a mutual communication between the merchandisers and clients that brings a great contribution to the fashion industry. Besides, it helps the users to dress up stylish as well as fit clothing.  Before placing the order, every buyer thinks of their capabilities. That is why, sampling is regarded as a central theme for developing products (including buttons, zippers, embroidery, etc) styles, sizing, and quality. Here we represent 12 types of samples in the garments industry.

Types of Samples in Garment Production:

The sample correcting department requires special care to fill the buyers’ requirements. To get the desired samples, design developers even classify the product into many parts. Various groups are created for improving order submission. Here we represent the category based on garment product sampling.

Whenever you want to get the common types of samples, your first choice can be muslin. Almost, all kinds of fashion designers feel comfort to launch the samples with muslin. Sometimes, it becomes impossible to get the real shape on paper or fabric. But when you do your task muslin plays an important role in the mock-up step. However, it is not necessary for all types of samples to be created in garments at any time. Again, some fashion industries never involve them.

Proto or Development Sample:

Proto sample jump-starts in the production cycle. Generally, the fashion designers launch the styles or sketches and the whole team works over it.  In the production house, this sample is carefully seen to get the desired designs. Normally proto samples are created for twin effects: two samples are for brand or designers’ reference, and one sample works for factory reference.

Digital Garment Sample:

Digital garment sampling indicates software that represents the fabrics with a 3D visualization. Actually, it’s a recent trend to display the product sample online. Buyers generally enjoy the design of the fabric by the movement or stillness state. Of having the high implementation cost and complex learning curve, it limits the technology. When the brands can overcome these obstacles, digital sample making can be the eye of the designers as well as the factories.

Fit Sample:

Among the different types of samples, a fit sample leads to the designers. A fit sample indicates choosing the certain fit that is created by the designers. Here production members are so assertive that they work for bringing the actual measurement by following the real sizing from the brands or fashion brands. Designers mainly complete the fit samples with any kind of fabric.

Salesman Sample:

Salesman sample is used for making the products for promotions or marketing purposes. The shop owners make final fabrics according to the basic sizes. Generally, these samples are made of expert designers. The retailers display the products in their shops in order to sell. To promote the sales, sometimes the shop owners arrange exhibitions.  Even these exhibitions are shown on the respective channels.

GPT Sample:

GPT Sample is one types of samples

GPT stands for garment performance test that implies the production idea. Actually, it is a series of sample tests where the brand evaluates the styles of the product. The following tests are seam slippage, seam strength, colorfastness, and wash fastness.  After the approval of GPT samples, the production houses become serious about bulk productivity.

Pre-production Sample:

It’s a primary sampling in the industry. In the production houses, designers make the designs with real fabrics. They give much importance to the step of pre-production. Without following the proper measurement of sample cutting, you can’t expect a satisfactory result. That is why; pre-production is a crucial need for any brand.

Sealed Sample:

After the approval of the pre-production samples, the designers seal them to protect tampering from the company’s production house. A sealed sample indicates the real product item. However, people know it as a red sealed sample or gold sealed sample. Among the different types of samples in the garments industry, it is significant for business promotion.

Top Sample:

When the designers receive the sealed sample, they start to work for bulk production. After making the numerous productions, then it starts the top sample collection. Quality controllers take a sample under their observation. This is called the top sample. They generally check the overall quality of the fabric. However, the top-quality sample is used for packaging.

Shipment Sample:

After following the top sample, designers work for making the products ready for shipment. The shipment sample is done with extra care based on standard system maintenance; finishing, packaging, etc. shipment samples may be few numbers. However, some shipment samples remain in the factory and they are also important on after shipment. Some entrepreneurs imply that shipment sample is a crucial need for approaching business.

Press Sample:

Press sample is called the final product which the product uses for previewing lively. Sometimes, they are found on the magazine’s cover.  Designers or entrepreneurs use these samples like photographing segments, collecting catalogs, magazines, e-commerce advertising, and so on.

Final Thought

All these types of samples ensure a continuous business in the garment industry. With a view to getting an order from the buyers, the garment production houses have to pass a tough time on the step of order submission. The entrepreneurs or designers who follow the clients’ documents perfectly, can pass this contest. As it is a form of step-by-step work, everyone should give the best output on them.
